yum, pickles. I am very happy to run across your blog through the Waiter, there is ... round-up. Pickled gherkins are something inevitable on my dinner table. Great present idea. Talking gifts, ....I myself am hosting an event that is dedicated to giving food as a present. I would love you to have a look and maybe you could come up with something? http://www.burntmouth.com/2007/10/spoonful-of-christmas.html

good point: they have to be crunchy. There's nothing worse than a soggy gherkin. which is why i favour french cornichons over the big sweet-and-sour gherkins i grew up with in austria. worse, the slimy cucumbers in brine some people swear by. they tasted of positively nothing. i wish i could find cornichons to pickle here, have never come across them. shame!
